91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” – Psalm 91:1-2 (ESV)
Safety awaits. For all who put their trust in the Lord, there is available peace and protection from God our Father.
This doesn’t mean our troubles will necessarily disappear. But it does mean that, as long as we put our faith in Him, we can rest in God and His promises.
The word “trust” is the key. We have to learn to see life through eyes of faith, not by our own fallible perceptions. We don’t know what we don’t know. And, because we are not sovereign, omniscient, omnipresent and/or omnipotent, what we do know – or at least think we know – is faulty and flawed at best. This is why we are told in Proverbs:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones. – Proverbs 3:5-8 (ESV)
When we are afraid, we need to remember that, instead of fretting and sweating and worrying, we should make a beeline straight to our Heavenly Father and abide there.
Live there.
Take shelter in Him.
The depths of God’s love are immeasurable. We have to trust – know that we know that we know – that He is with us always.
That He will never leave us.
That not feeling or sensing His presence or love does not negate the absolute truth that God is sovereign over all, and that He loves each of us so much He sent His Son Jesus to live among us, die the most horrific and unjust of deaths, and raise from the tomb, overcoming death and sin that we may have eternal life with Him!
You have to accept as reality what God’s Word says. Not the media. Not the world. Only God through Jesus Christ.
So, go ahead. Abandon that fearful place inside where your fears and anxieties lie to you. Leave the emotional baggage behind and run to the loving arms of the Lord. You’re safe there.
46 hGod is our refuge and strength,
a very present2 help in trouble.
2 Therefore iwe will not fear though the earth give way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.Selah
4 There is a jriver whose streams make glad the kcity of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD of hosts is lwith us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.Selah
8 mCome, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and oknow that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalm 46 (ESV)
